October 22, 2012 Transcript of #CommsChat with CIPR presidential candidates

Today at 1 p.m. we had a special lunchtime edition of #CommsChat in which the two candidates for the CIPR presidency, Miti Ampoma and Lionel Zetter, fielded questions. Both candidates provided interesting views on recent issues facing the PR industry and what they see as the role of CIPR in the future.

Voting closes on 24 October so the debate was the final opportunity for the candidates to answer questions from CIPR members and others.

Some tweets that stood out during the hour were:

lionelzetter The CIPR has always led on professionalisation and on upholding standards, and it must continue to do so

stuartbruce Are larger & more professional contradictions? More professional is higher barrier to entry (good thing), but does it slow growth

MitiAmpoma @CommsChat Yes I do. Lessons of Arab Spring with limited access to internet is truly stuff of revolution as an example.

hanifleylabi Regulation that comes about from a process of two way, open and accessible dialogue can only strengthen the profession

lionelzetter CIPR President should lead, promote the industry, exercise good judgment, communicate clearly, and avoid cliches and jargon

MitiAmpoma @CommsChat Lead from the front, martial our best thinkers, challenge the status quo, give voice & credibility to membership & DO.
