July 9, 2012 #CommsChat on 9 July – Should marketing report into PR?

Tonight on #CommsChat, we’re taking up the topic that provoked so much debate at last week’s LoggerheadsLive: “This house believes that marketing should report into PR”. LoggerheadsLive is a new live debate and drinks evening hosted by Communicate magazine and sponsored by Lexis The Recommendation Agency.

We’re throwing #CommsChat open to the community tonight, with no one particular guest. If you’re in marketing or PR, we want to hear your views; and if you’re in a different department of comms altogether, and think that you should have independence or supremacy, we want to hear those arguments too.

Topics for tonight include:

  • Can we argue this motion without defining PR and marketing first?
  • Does PR or marketing have more effect on reputation?
  • If marketing reports to PR, to whom does PR report?
  • Can we argue that PR should in fact report to marketing?
  • Does there need to be a linear chain of command within communications?

#CommsChat takes place on Twitter every Monday evening from 8 to 9 pm (UK time). You can take place here, or simply search in Twitter for the hashtag. A transcript will go up on Tuesday morning.

We’d love to hear your suggestions for upcoming topics on #CommsChat – what do you think we should cover? Tweet us or email Molly Pierce.
