June 14, 2016 Transcript of #CommsChat on brand journalism and PR
This week on #CommsChat we chatted all things branded content and PR. This is in the wake of an announcement by City AM that it would deconstruct the wall between editorial and advertising, allowing brands to produce and publish advertising content in article format. We looked at the importance of PR and whether its role might be compromised by this decision, and how journalism as a trade might come under pressure from brands with a higher leverage.
The ethical responsibilities this poses to journalists, as well as the potential problems a lack of vetting might pose to editorial credibility, was also discussed.
