Social tools are everywhere. Some companies try to restrict access to these tools for fear of what their employees may say, about the company, about each other and about the customer. Why do companies persist in employing people they clearly don’t trust? I wish I knew the answer. And as fast as the company blocks access to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and more, employees arm themselves with smart phones and tablets and step outside the restricted zone. Control is increasingly becoming an illusion.

September 12, 2011 Are you prepared for the new term? Need a helping hand?

September is here, the leaves have started to turn in England and children have headed back to school after a long summer of adventures and fun. I loved that September feeling, with newly-lined textbooks in colourful paper and seeing my school friends again. It’s not quite the same in the corporate world is it? But why not take a moment to pause, gather your thoughts and start afresh as if it’s a new term?

Welcome to the new look CommsChat site. If you’ve been a regular participant over the past year you may not be reading this – it’s possible that you follow #CommsChat in TweetChat, or on TweetDeck, or maybe on Twitter itself. However, we realise that there are many comms professionals for whom social territories are not necessarily their native homeland. They want to go to one site, and stay there. So we’ve launched a twitter chat window within the CommsChat site. We also know there are many who want to carry on the conversation in a little more detail than 140 characters, so we’ve created a blogging portal.
