This week's chat

September 17, 2012 #CommsChat with Richard Millington on community management

Tonight on #CommsChat we’re delighted to bring you a session dedicated to community management – specifically, we’re going to be talking about organic communities and their artificial counterparts.

We’ll be joined by Richard Millington, founder of Feverbee, an online community consultancy, who’s worked with the United Nations, the Global Fund, and BAE Systems among others.

Building and working with online communities is a topic of great debate among brands with a digital presence. But how do you participate in a community without interfering? What gives you the right to join the conversation?

Topics tonight will include:

  • What are some examples of organic communities that have developed around brands?
  • Should organisations be involved at all in the growing of communities?
  • How do you earn the right to take part in conversations about your brand?
  • How can you make a community feel less artificial?
  • What are the key points when it comes to growing communities and increasing activity from members?

#CommsChat takes place from 8-9pm (UK time) each Monday evening. Anyone can take part in the discussion – simply follow the hashtag here or on Twitter. If you can’t make the chat or would like to revisit it, a transcript will go up on Tuesday morning.

We’d love to hear your suggestions for future topics for #CommsChat – get in touch with Molly by email or Twitter if you’ve got ideas.
