This week's chat

November 13, 2017 #CommsChat special on Christmas adverts

This week on #CommsChat, we’ll have our first foray into the festive season, given the proliferation of Christmas adverts that have hit UK television screens. We’ll look at how brands can use the Christmas season for positioning and the challenges this can present in terms of tone of voice and audience participation. We’ll also take a light-hearted look at our followers’ best and worst Christmas adverts so far. Follow @CommsChat on Twitter and use the hashtag #CommsChat to get involved.

The topics are:

  • What can Christmas ads do for brands that usual advertising can’t?
  • How can brands communicate messages during the busy Christmas season?
  • How can brands ensure an appropriate tone of voice and positioning?
  • What can non-consumer brands do to get involved?
  • What is your favourite/least favourite Christmas ad? Why?

Join us! We tweet from @CommsChat and #CommsChat takes place every Monday, from 8-9pm GMT. Anyone can take part in the discussion – simply follow the hashtag here or on Twitter. If you can’t make the chat or would like to revisit it, a transcript will be posted to Storify on Tuesday morning. We’d love to hear your suggestions for future topics – please get in touch with Amy at amy.sandys@communicatemagazine.co.uk or contact us on Twitter with any ideas.
